JISC

In the beginning...

In April of this year, Swansea University was lucky enough to be selected to participate in the Jisc-ARMA ORCID pilot project with the aim of  investigating the implementation of ORCID IDs within our Research Information System (RIS).

Full details of the JISC project can be found at: http://orcidpilot.jiscinvolve.org/wp/ and http://www.jisc.ac.uk/fundingopportunities/funding_calls/2014/03/orcid.aspx.

The overall aim of this project is to explore the use and encourage the adoption of ORCIDs across Swansea University and, working with our partners, more widely across Wales. We will embed ORCIDs in our institutional systems and work with the Welsh Higher Education Libraries Forum (WHELF), the Welsh Repository Network (WRN) and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol (CCC). By the end of the project we hope to have all relevant personnel set up with an ORCID and for them to be using this ID when interacting with systems such as our Institutional Respository (http://cronfa.swan.ac.uk) and RIS.

We also aim to make ORCID available in the Welsh language to support researchers across Wales. Not only is bilingual provision a legal requirement in Wales, supported and monitored by the Welsh Commissioner, it is also an expectation among our Students and Staff.

The Plan
  1. Extend RIS to include ORCIDs for Additional Authors - May 2014
  2. Extend HR Intranet system to include ORCIDs for Staff Members. Make contact with relevant staff at WHELF, WRN and CCC - June 2014
  3. Extend Main Website Staff Profile pages and Cronfa (Institutional Repository) pages to include ORCIDs - July 2014
  4. Organise and agree translation of ORCID language files - August 2014
